INTRODUCTION

Sohna hills is about 50kms from Delhi on Delhi-Alwar Highway, is the health and holiday resort Sohna,atop Sohna hill.Sohna in Hindi means gold; in the past, gold used to be collected from the sands of the streams around the town. From the hill top you can have a panoramic view of the vast green fields, and the rugged countryside around.

A delightful motel perched on the edge of the hills, with its luxuriously furnished rooms and exclusive balconies overlook the town. And the Barbet huts, artistically designed and tastefully furnished with all facilities under one roof constitute a heavenly set up for the tourists.

ORIENTATION

Sohna hills is perched high on the Aravalli ridges and overlooks the stunning backdrop of the sylvan Damdama Lake.

HISTORY

There is nothing much the history of this place but Sohna literally means `gold' in Hindi. The charming holiday resort Sohna is known as `Sona' because once, gold dust was collected from the sands of streams flowing around it.

PLACES OF INTERESTS

SULPHUR SPRINGS

Sohna is famous for its sulphur springs, reputed for their medicinal properties, with the temperature ranging from 46.10c to 51.70c. The springs are located at the feet of a perpendicular rock, and are capped by a dome believed to have been built in the 14th century.

The spa complex with sauna, sulphur and steam bath facilities for the tourists is situated up on the rock. There is also a mini swimming pool, filled with water spewed from a wall mural. It is said that Arjun (one of the five Pandav brothers) dug these wells when he was thirsty.

BADKHAL LAKE

Badkhal Lake is another holiday attraction at a distance of about 32 from Delhi at a well fortified position giving immense pleasure. This is about 9kms from Surajkund, nestled within the boulder strewn Aravalli hills.

BALLABHGARH FORT

The Ballabhgarh Fort though lies in outskirts of Delhi it is a must place to be visited on the way to Sohna hills. This historic fort belongs to the King Nahar Singh.

DAMDAMA LAKE

Damdama is one of Haryana's largest natural lakes and a favored weekend spot for locals as well as tourists. Flanked by the Aravalli mountains, this water wonderland is famous for its various boating opportunities.

SURAJ KUND

On the outskirts of Delhi, this is a very famous picnic spot with a serene lake resort in between. Historically it came into prominence when the Jat ruler Surajmal Jat camped with his army to attack Delhi in the eighteenth century.

DABCHIK TOURIST COMPLEX

Dabchick is a delightful centre that grew up to be one of the most picturesque stations.
