TILAK NAGAR-DELHI


Tilak Nagar is situated in West Delhi which is about seventeen kilometers from Delhi Railway Station and twenty-two kilometers from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The area where Tilak Nagar is situated is more of a suburban dominated mostly by Punjabis. The commuters to this area get easy transport to Tilak Nagar by the Delhi metro which is very well connected to the other parts of Delhi. Tilak Nagar is quite famous among the localites of Delhi especially dealing with more of customer branded clothings. Tilak market is very much appreciated and preferred by the Punjabi's for they purchase most of their requirements or items for their wedding rituals like Chura, Lawan Suit, Pagri, kangna and currency garland, etc.

It is not a very huge or a posh market but of course it caters to most of the requirements giving the visitors a homely comfort. As already mentioned since this area is being dominated by more of Punjabi's there are lot of shops which entertain their needs. Tilak nagar has lot of small and interesting shops in the bazaar. The Tilak Nagar market mostly works from 10 AM to 9 PM. The streets here are very narrow and congested.

Jolly Book Depot is situated just opposite to Tilak Nagar Metro station with a dim lit interior. There are lots of English novels stacked in the Jolly Book Depot. The shop belongs to Harminder Singh Jolly who was a partition refugee and initially a timber merchant. There are books based on short stories, crime magazines and also school level books. The market is noted for its Gandhi cycle showroom which is also a land mark of Tilak nagar. This cycle showroom was once again started by a partition refugee which has perambulators, kids and adults bicycle, treadmills and much more of sports utility work out machines. The things available here range from hundreds to several thousands of rupees.

Malik Jewellery in Tilak Nagar is also Quite Famous:

Apart from the showrooms selling branded clothes there are also shops on the pavement as on any other shopping area of Delhi.

In the morning the Galaxy store functions as an acupressure clinic and by afternoon it transforms itself into a fancy store where they deal with fancy, designer and embroidery ladies suits and also fancy kurtis and tights.Initially this shop was situated in the Metro bazaar but later when the construction of the Metro line came up the shop has to be shifted from there to the Tilak market. This shop caters from low range of products to the expensive suit varieties.

While we stroll round the streets of Tilak nagar the lost appetite can be gained by having a quick lunch or brunch at Bhape di Hatti on Gurudwara Road. The best chhole bhathura of Tilak nagar is served at Bhape di Hatti. This eatery shop is more like a gallery where shoppers block the entrance while waiting for tables to be cleared.
