OPPANAKARA STREET-COIMBATORE
Oppanakara Street in Coimbatore is also supposed to be one of the busiest streets in the town and also in India. It is in the vicinity of the Town Hall area which has a lot of commercial establishments. The Oppanakara street is a single stretch of road with lot of small lanes leading in where most of them being wholesale textile and jewelery showrooms. It is from these whole sale shops the retailers buy their things.
The Oppanakara Street lies between South Ukkadam on one end and Mill Road on the other end. The streets of this area apart from having big commercial shops also have small street hawkers who sell small things like safety pins, bindis and other artificial ornaments and much more. One of the lanes in the Oppanakara Street leads to Raja Street which has both small and big stores of jewelry.Some of the very old commercial establishments are housed in Oppanakara Street.This is one place in Coimbatore which is always seen with people throughout the day. At times of festivals like Deepavali, Pongal, Aadi and occasions the Oppanakara Street is full of people especially the pedestrian traffic gets too heavy. Oppanakara street houses some of the best entrenched shops of the city which include Pothys, Big Bazaar, The Chennai Silks, Ganapathy Silks and Ramraj Cotton.
