MG ROAD-BANGLORE
Mahatma Gandhi road more popularly known among the people of Bangalore as M.G Road is one of the busiest roads in the city. During the pre- independence period, at the time of the British reign this place was referred as South Parade by the then rulers.
The M.G. road is supposed to be the trendiest shopping extension of the city stretching from Trinity Circle at one end to Anil Kumble Circle at the other. The road got its name as M.G. road on 26th February, 1948. Apart from being a major shopping destination for the people of Bangalore, M.G. road also houses a number of office buildings, shops and theatres.
It is one of the busiest and crowded road in the city always buzzing with the natives and tourists and is lined up with a number of retail outlets mostly the branded ones, food joints and restaurants. Added to these features M.G. road has its own Metro Railway Station which runs through the east and west and connecting the same. Presently, the M.G Road Boulevard is being reconstructed after construction of the MG Road Metro station which was completed and services launched on October 20, 2011. Some of the biggest and the five star hotels of the city like Taj Residency, Park, and Oberoi are situated in M.G. road. Being flanked by hotels and upscale stores on one side, M.G. road also houses swanky office buildings like ING, and many other international banks in it. There are lots of other shops including crockery, book shop, sweets, and movie theatres dating to several decades which are also seen in M.G. road. The road which perpendicularly runs from the M.G. road is the Brigade road which is also a part of the M.G. road and is also another famous shopping area with mostly branded shops and has the city's the most posh pubs, cafes and show rooms. Church Street is also a part of the M.G. road lined with branded and local branded shops. Not only Bangalore but also cities like New Delhi and Mumbai also have the popular M.G. road but there is no link between them only for the fact that in many cases M.G. roads used to be the busiest part of the city.

M.G.road is a diverse blend of shops ranging from general goods to electronic items, silk saris, antiques, textiles, etc. Shrungar Shopping Complex, Barton Court, Public Utility Building, Spencer's Super Market, the Coir Board showroom, Natesan's Antiquarts, Kids Kemp, Saree Kemp, Cauvery Arts and Crafts emporium are some of the most popular shopping centers situated in M.G. road. The major financial institutions of the city like ING Vysya, Vijaya Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Citibank, HSBC, Deutsche Bank etc. are situated in the M.G. road. India's finest connoisseur of good food supermarket presented and coordinated by Food hall namely the MARKS & SPENCER is situated at the entrance of the M.G. road. The church street has number of book shops which sells both old and new copies of books. M.G. road is also a place for electronic gadgets and devices.

Though many people consider the metro as a blemish for the majestic M.G road but still it is a must and an essential feature for the better development. The M.G road is a very entertaining place for the shopping enthusiasts. Like any other shopping area bargain also works at the shops in M.G. road. But due to over crowd the public and the shoppers should always be cautious about their personal belongings. Most of the shops in M.G. road remain closed on Sundays for they work in full swing for the rest of the days of the week. Access to M.G. road - there are buses which connects the different part of the city and is also situated close to the city's famous St.Joseph's College Of Commerce. The shops at M.G. road work from 10 am - 8 p.m.Brigade Road is one of the biggest commercial centers and busiest shopping areas of Bangalore. As mentioned earlier Brigade road is the road which lies perpendicular to the M.G. road and it serves as a connecting road between MG Road and Residency Road. The Brigade road stretch is not as long as the M.G. road but still it has a number of shopping malls, restaurants, cafes, pubs and western fast food chains such as KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Domino's and Starbucks lining both the sides of the Brigade road. Brigade road is not only famous among the natives of Bangalore but being the IT hub we can witness the place being visited by lot of foreigners too.

Brigade road is also lined with branded outlets like Levi's, Reebok, Dockers, Woodland, , Nike etc. There are lot of retail outlets including apparels, footwear, electronic goods and much more at the Brigade road. Brigade road is very popular among the teens of the city with shops like garments and accessories which are of great interest to them. Brigade Road is the celebration hub or the focal point of New Year celebrations in the city for many years. It is fun and a must to visit the Brigade road at the time of New yeas eve for the entire stretch will be brightly lighted with LED lights and it is a very colorful sight to witness this. Most of the shopping malls in this area have multiplexes in them. The traditional Poombukar from the state of Tamil Nadu which sells handicrafts is also situated in Brigade road.
