Neeraj Chopra is like a son to Manu Bhaker's mother: Shooter's father on marriage rumours

Double Olympic bronze winner Manu Bhaker’s father rubbished marriage rumours linked to his daughter, saying “she’s still very young”. His remarks came after videos of Bhaker and her mother’s chat with Neeraj Chopra after the Paris Olympics went viral, sending social media into an overdrive. Manu’s father also said that Neeraj is like a son to Manu’s mother.

"Manu is still very young. She is not even of marriageable age. Not even thinking about it right now," Kishan Bhaker told Dainik Bhaskar.

"Manu's mother considers Neeraj like her son," he added.

On Neeraj’s wedding rumours, his uncle said, "Just as Neeraj brought the medal, the entire country got to know about it. Similarly, when he marries, then everyone will know."

Manu, Neeraj make India proud

Manu Bhaker and Neeraj Chopra are among the Indians to have won multiple medals at the Olympics. The 22-year-old Manu began her campaign in Paris by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event. Thereafter, she won another bronze in the team event along with Sarabjot Singh.

She had a brilliant chance of winning three medals when she took part in the finals of the women’s 25m Pistol event. But she fell short after finishing fourth following her defeat to Veronika Major. Manu, in the meantime, became the first Indian woman to win multiple medals in a single edition of the Olympics. She was also a flag-bearer for India in the closing ceremony.

Neeraj Chopra, meanwhile, became the first Indian athlete to win two Olympic medals in track and field. He won silver in men's javelin in Paris after the gold medal in Tokyo. In his second attempt in the final, he threw 89.45 metres behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set an Olympic record with a throw of over 92 metres.
