Mpox News India: Signs of another pandemic? In the last 12 hours, the country has taken some stringent decisions to contain Mpox outbreak spread in the country. In the latest of all, Bengaluru airport authorities have stated that International passengers, especially those arriving from African countries, will undergo screening for the monkeypox virus and if found positive would have to undergo 21-day mandatory quarantine and isolation. The rules are similar to those implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Kampegowda International Airport In Bengaluru is fully prepared and compliant with all health and safety protocols issued by relevant authorities in light of the global Mpox situation," a spokesperson for the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) told the media.

The 21-day quarantine requirement is vital for controlling the MPOX spread and protecting public health, says experts. The same decision was taken when COVID-19 entered the country back in 2020. Such measures have effectively curbed the transmission of infectious diseases, allowing health officials to monitor and manage cases more effectively. "Though these enhanced safety protocols may lead to some inconveniences for travellers, the health and safety of the community are the utmost priority. By enforcing robust testing and quarantine guidelines, Bengaluru Airport aims to reduce the risk of MPOX spreading and to avert a larger outbreak," said officials.


What Is Mpox Virus: How Does It Transmit?

Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, is a relatively new virus that falls under the category of RNA viruses. It was first detected in a small village in Southeast Asia, where several people showed symptoms like fever, cough, and respiratory issues. Further investigation indicated that this virus originated from animals and was likely transmitted to humans who were in close contact with them.

One of the main concerns about the Mpox virus is how it spreads. Much like other respiratory illnesses, it transmits through respiratory droplets when someone who is infected coughs, sneezes, or talks. The virus can also live on surfaces for a short time, making it possible to catch it from contaminated objects. Health experts are stressing the importance of good hand hygiene and wearing masks to help prevent the virus's spread.
