Sushmita Sen, is a Delhi girl who took the world by storm in the year 1994, when she was crowned the Miss Universe. She is the first one to win this title. This lovely Delhi girl with very normal looks was the youngest among the seventy seven participants, at just 18 years old.

Absolutely no one even thought or predicted that this dark horse of the pageant would emerge as the winner.She was born in a middle class family in the vibrant city of Hyderabad. Her father Shubeer Sen was a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander and her mother Subhra Sen was a fashion artist and a jewelry designer. She has a brother named Rajeev Sen. Sushmita has torn apart many myths and pre -conceived notions of the abilities of a middle class girl in the field of glamour at global level.

It all started at a very young age of eighteen in the year 1994 when Sushmita Sen participated in the Miss Universe beauty pageant and won the title crown. She is the first Indian lady to win the title of Miss Universe in the pageant history. She made India very proud. Her biggest competitor was miss Aishwarya Rai who went for the Miss World beauty pageant and won the title for the same. Winning of the Miss Universe crown was the initiator for her entry into the world of cinema. She started getting a lot of film offers since then. Even though she got a lot of offers to act in a film after winning the crown, she took her time to settle down and finally she starred withn ace director Mahesh Bhatt's film Dastak. However, it was after two years that her appearance as the character Rupali in director David Dhawan's movie Biwi No.1 that won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in the year 1999. In the same year, she was also nominated for her the role she portrayed in the film Sirf Tum under the same category that made her an obvious choice for the winner. She received critical appreciation and a huge box office success for her film Aankhen. So far, her biggest hit film in her career has been the movie Main Hoon Na that was released in the year 2004, in which she starred as Shah Rukh Khan's love interest. She starred in the movie that grossed Rs 34,00,00,000 over the market and was the second best selling movie of the year. Later on, she portrayed the role of a lawyer in the film Main Aisa Hi Hoon opposite actor Ajay Devgan. In the year 2005, she had also starred in the remake of Hollywood movie Cactus Flower called Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, In this movie Sen played the female lead opposite actor Salman Khan and actress Katrina Kaif. Her other movies include Karma, Confessions and Holi in the year 2006 in which she acted opposite Naomi Campbell, director Ram Gopal Varma's Ki Aag in the year2 007 and the film Dulha Mil Gaya in the year 2010 starring opposite actor Shahrukh Khan. It has also been reported that Sushmita Sen will play the role of the slain Pakistan Peoples Party leader Benazir Bhutto in a movie co-produced by producer Zaid Aziz and Henna Rai of Karachi production firm Vox Vision and Leicester-based Sum Film respectively. Uncertainly titled Benazir Bhutto: The Movie, the movie will be shot in various locations of Pakistan, US, Britain and Dubai, where Bhutto had spent most of her years as a student and later as a political leader in exile. Sushmita also starred in the film Do Knot Disturb with her longtime screen partner actor Govinda. The film failed to do well at the box office. Sushmita portrays the role of a very successful supermodel named Shimmer in the film Dulha Mil Gaya. During the initial stages of Sushmita's career she was reported to be having a torrid yet a very brief affair with Vikram Bhatt, who was already married and had children. Though she has always categorically denied rumours. She is always in the gossip columns of newspapers and magazines for her relationship with Randeep Huda, Sanjay Narang, etc. Currently, she is dating Manav Menon who is an ad executive. Sushmita is now a dearly mother. She has adopted a baby girl from a local orphanage to have the joys of motherhood without undergoing labour pains. She has named her daughter Renee, after the French Goddess of Love.
