Mahesh Bhupathi is most recognized as one of the top doubles players in the 1990s and 2000s. He and Leander became the first doubles players to arrive at the finals of all four Grand Slams, the first time such an exploit has been achieved in the open era and the first time since 1952.
On 26 April of the same year, they became the world no. 1 doubles players. Bhupathi also got the US Open mixed doubles with Ai Sugiyama of Japan.
In 2006, Bhupathi combined with Martina Hingis in the Australian Open mixed doubles contest. Toward the inside of the contest unseeded and as wildcards, the first–time couple overpowered four seeded opponents all along the way, while just dropping a single set all the way through. Bhupathi and Hingis overwhelmed the sixth-seeded team of Daniel Nestor and Elena Likhovtseva in straight sets, 6–3, 6–3, to incarcerate the championship.
By captivating the Australian Open, Bhupathi accomplished a career Grand Slam in mixed doubles. In 2007, Bhupathi and Czech Radek Stepanek entered the 2007 Australian Open men's doubles event's quarterfinals. He joined with stepanek at the 2007 French Open to build the doubles semifinals, defeating two-year shielding champions Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi in the quarterfinals.
The players lost to the ultimate champions Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor. Subsequent to Wimbledon, Bhupathi joined with Pavel Vizner to win the 2007 Canada Masters, defeating the top-ranked doubles group Bob and Mike Bryan in path. Following this triumph, he won a match in New Haven with Nenad Zimonjic. At the 2007 US Open, he and Zimonjic combined in doubles.
Later than the US Open, the players that thrashed Bhupathi and Stepanek in the French Open semifinals, Knowles and Nestor, cracked up. Bhupathi became Knowles' partner at the same time as Zimonjic became Nestor's, but back surgical treatment intended he was away until the end of the year.
In 2009, Bhupathi and fellow citizen Sania Mirza won the mixed doubles title at the Australian Open, defeating Nathalie Dechy of France and Andy Ram of Israel, 6–3, 6–1, in the final. The number one Indian twosome thus made up for the disillusionment of the before year's final when they were packed down by Tiantian Sun and Nenad Zimonjic. With this win, Bhupathi's tot up in mixed doubles Grand Slam titles augmented to seven.
Bhupathi ruined up his affiliation with Knowles and began playing once again with Max Mirnyi. In 2011, Bhupathi reunited with earlier playing colleague Leander Paes for the 2011 Australian Open. The set of Bhupathi and Paes reached the final, but lost, 3–6, 4–6, to the Bryan brothers. Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza won the French Open mixed doubles on 7 June 2012. On 4 November 2012, Mahesh Bhupathi and his associate Rohan Boppana won the Paris Masters cup.
