INTRODUCTION

The Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary situated across the Aravali mountain spreads over an area of about 578 sq km and at an altitude of about 500m to 1,300m.The Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary guarded by the strong Bastion fort gives a beautiful picture of what exact a forest is accommodating endangered wildlife. This sanctuary boasts of an adventurous forest and it is an asylum of rare and exotic species of animal kingdom along with beautiful flora and fauna. It is also a home to different varieties of avian species. Every year, Kumbhalgarh draws many a tourists towards itself for its natural beauty. The kumbhalgarh sanctuary is supporting a rich variety of wildlife like the Panther, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Four Horned Antelope and scientifically bred Crocodiles in the lake, is the major attractions.

ORIENTATION

The Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary is situated at a distance of 65 kms from Udaipur in Rajsamand district covers an area of 578 sq km and lies across the Aravali mountain at an altitude ranging from 500m to 1,300m.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The ideal time to visit the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is anywhere between the months of November to April.

Flora


The flora contributing the sanctuary is mainly of herbs.

Apart from the herb the other floral species found here includes Dhok, Salar, Khair and Churel.



Fauna

The fauna of the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary has a long list and diverse array of highly endangered species. The animals of this sanctuary include leopards, sloth bear, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, smabhar, nilgai, chaisingh (the four horned antelope), chinkara and hare. The Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is also noted for its wolves which are atleast more than forty in number.

Avian Species

The avian species inhabiting this sanctuary is also quite gratifying. It is also the home to the shy and untrusted grey jungle fowl. The other bird species seen in this sanctuary includes Peacocks, Doves, and red spur owls, Parakeets, golden Oriole, grey Pigeons, Bulbul, Dove and white breasted kingfisher.

The best way to see these birds is to locate a nice hiding place near the waterholes.

Other Attraction

The Kumbhalgarh Fort belongs to the 15th century and is named after Rana Kumbha.The Kumbhalgarh Fort is situated at an altitude of about 1100m above sea level and whose noted feature is its wall which is about thirty-six km in length and is considered to be next only to the 'Great Wall of China�. The Kumbhalgarh Fort is surrounded by thirteen mountain peaks and has seven gates where each one has folklore behind it. Owing to its position which commands an excellent view of Gujarat and Marwar it is also referred by the name 'Eye of Mewar'.The other feature of the fort includes its temples which are about 360 in number of which there are 300 Jain temples and 60 Hindu temples. The fort houses a beautiful palace namely the Badal Mahal Palace which is furnished in jewelled colours.It is also the birth place of Maharana Pratap.

By Trains

By Road
