Bharat Mata temple is located at Varanasi which is the only temple dedicated to Mother India. It is situated near the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth campus. In 1936, the Mandir was built by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupta and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. The statue of Bharat Mata is built with marble and is a model of undivided India, which is depicting the mountains, plains and oceans. The most peculiar thing about the Bharat Mata Temple is that instead of the customary gods and goddesses, it houses a relief map of India, carved out of marble.
Significance of the temple
Located in Sapt Sarovar near ashram at Haridwar, Bharat Mata Temple is a holy place of its own kind. Swami Satyamitranand Giri is one who found the Bharat Mata Mandir.On 15th May 1983, the temple was inaugurated by Late Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi. The Bharat Mata Mandir consists of statue which is representation of India in the form of a mother goddess.The Goddess of India or Mother India is generally illustrated as a woman dressed in a saffron-colored sari and holding the flag in one of her hands.
This eight-storied temple of Mother India has an approximate height of 180 feet. Elevators are installed in the temple to aid the pilgrims. Each storey of the temple is based on a particular theme, housing figures of many mythological legends, religious deities, freedom fighters and leaders. It is a kind of reverence to all those, who played a vital role in the formation of the country.

The third floor is known as 'Matru Mandir' that celebrates the achievements of honored women like Meera Bai, Savitri and Matiri etc. 'Sant Mandir' is the fourth floor that features great saints from different religions of India. The fifth floor has an assembly hall, where all the practicing religions in India, are represented in a harmonious manner on the walls. These walls reveal the historical facts and painting which are screening the natural beauty of India.
On the sixth floor of Mandir is the Goddess Shakti represented in different forms like Durga, Parvati, Sati, Radha, Saraswati, Kali, etc. The seventh floor in the temple is dedicated to all the incarnations and forms of Lord Vishnu including Ram, Krishna and Matsya, etc. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the eighth floor offers a splendid view of the Himalayas and the whole complex of Sapt Sarovar.

The upper structure of the Bharat Mata Mandir starts with five at the base and as over it converges into one at the top, symbolizing that this world of five elements has ultimately to merge with the Supreme.

Behind all of the temples in the city of Varanasi either the religious sentiments of the people attached or these temples enshrine any particular God or Goddess. But Bharat Mata Mandir is unique in its own sense.

Good time to visit the Varanasi City is during Makara Sankranti that is in January and Basant Panchami during January-February . Maha Shivaratri during the month of February-March is a very special religious festival in Varanasi. As it is marked by many rituals and festivities all through Varanasi. Best periods to visit this place would be from October to March.

How to reach the Temple
One can reach the temple through all the following options and catch a cab to the Temple.
The temple is located about 3 km west of Godaulia, outside the old city. It is situated in the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth campus.
- By Air -one can reach Varanasi city as it is well- connected by regular service of flights with some major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Lucknow, Jaipur, Khajuraho, Katmandu.
- By Train - Varanasi being a major rail junction, is properly connected by rail. The city is well very much connected by super fast trains to Delhi. The major cities across the country like Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Lucknow, Allahabad, Patna, Jaipur, Gorakhpur and Khajuraho are all connected.
- By Road one can reach Varanasi by a well network connection of roads from all major towns of Uttar Pradesh and other neighbouring areas. There is regular bus service which can be availed from Varanasi to Jaunpur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Faizabad and Gorakhpur. Varanasi is also well- connected with Kolkata, Delhi, Madras and Bangalore.
