India ranks first among the top exporters in cut and polished diamonds in the world for year 2022. In financial year 2022, the value of diamond production in India was estimated to have been around 18.1 million Indian rupees, a considerable decrease from the previous year when the value amounted to nearly 148 million Indian rupees.
Revenue of the Indian diamond industry is set to be cut 15-20 per cent to $19-20 billion this fiscal, compared with a decadal high in the last financial year. While exports of polished diamond grew 48 per cent year-on-year last fiscal, rough diamond imports were up 74 per cent, with almost 40 per cent of the imports being in the closing quarter.
