India is the second largest textile and clothing exporter in the world. India's textiles industry employs about 4.5 crore workers including 35.22
lakh handloom workers across the country. Exports of textiles stood at US$ 29.8 billion between April-December 2021.
The Indian textiles market is expected to be worth more than US$ 209 billion by 2029. India's textile exports grew at a healthy rate of 9% in FY21 despite the pandemic.
Investments
The textiles sector has witnessed a spurt in investment during the last five years. The industry attracted Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) worth US$ 3.93 billion from April 2000-December 2021.
