INDIAN CARPET INDUSTRY AT A GLANCE IN 2020 - 2021
The Indian Carpet industry is several centuries old and there are remnants that point out that this Industry has been in India right around the 16th century. Indian handmade carpets are renowned all around the world and today India is one of the largest producer and exporter of carpets both in value and volume terms.
Somewhere around 90% of the carpets made in India are exported as they are known for their great quality and durability and aesthetic appeal.
In FY20 (till November 2019), total carpet exports from India stood at Rs Rs 64,407.19 crore (US$ 916.15 million).
Export of carpets from India stood at US$ 1.37 billion in FY20.
The total carpet export was US$ 1.33 billion between April 2020 and February 2021.
The carpet export in the month of February 2021alone , was US$ 136.21 million.
