The Indian film industry reached Rs 100 billion (US$ 1.43 billion) in 2019. India’s video streaming industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 21.82 per cent by 2023. In fiscal year 2019, the total revenue earned by the Indian film industry amounted to over 183 billion Indian rupees. Out of this, the highest earnings came from domestic theatrical revenue, worth almost 125 billion rupees. The country's film industry recorded a 15.3 percent growth in revenue that year compared to fiscal year 2018. Bollywood movies notched up ₹3,700 crore in the first three quarters of 2019.

The Indian film industry is expected to grow at 11.5% year-on-year, reaching total gross realisation of Rs 23,800 crore ($3.7 billion) by 2020, according to a report by an Industry Expert.
At present, the Indian film industry grosses a total revenue of Rs 13,800 crore ($2.1 billion), and it has grown at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of over 10% in the last couple of years.
