During the period April 2000-December 2018, the hotel and tourism sector attracted around US$ 12 billion of FDI, according to the data released by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
The Tourism connection
The World Trade and Tourism Council ranked India 18th in business travel and also predicted that it would climb up soon to be amongst the top 5 ranks. The increasing number of foreign tourist arrival (FTAs) as well as soaring domestic travelers is boosting the Indian Hotel industry.
Industry Forecast
International hotel chains will account for around 47 per cent share in the Tourism & Hospitality sector of India by 2020 & 50 per cent by 2022. According to the Indian Hotel Industry Survey, the Indian hotel industry is estimated to expand to be at 13 billion U.S. dollars by 2020. The hotels industry is expected to see an increase in room revenue at the rate of about 10%-12% CAGR over the next five years.
