INDIAN PAPER INDUSTRY AT A GLANCE IN 2017 - 2018Overview
The Indian paper industry is one of the most flourishing and thriving industries of India. The Indian Paper industry is estimated around Rs.53,000 crores. After a lull, the industry is growing now after a gap of about 22 years. The estimated turnover of the industry is INR 50,000 crore (USD 8 billion) approximately and its contribution to the exchequer is around INR 4,500 crore. The industry provides employment to more than 0.5 million people directly and 1.5 million people indirectly.
Share in global arena
The Indian paper industry accounts for about 3% of the world’s production of paper. This industry accounts for about 1.6% of the world’s production of paper. It is the 15th largest in the world.
Projections for the Industry
Presently, the Indian paper industry comprises of more than 157 paper producing divisions all across India. The industry is expected to surpass 20 million tonnes by the end of 2020.
