India's coir exports are growing at a healthy pace and the coir exporters have been receiving good orders from some of the African countries and UAE. According to statistics, the US market is the largest market for Indian coir products and accounts for more than 37 percent of overall coir exports from India followed by the EU countries which account for more than 41 percent and the remaining share is distributed between Germany, Belgium and Italy.
In 2012-2013, India's coir and coir products exports increased from 6 percent year-on-year to Rs. 11.16 billion, while in terms of volume, they swelled by 5 percent year-on-year to 410,854 tons. From April to October 2013, the coir exports in India were estimated at Rs. 7 billion.
Earlier this year, the Coir Board of India had devised a new marketing strategy to achieve a sales turnover of Rs. 30 billion by 2017 as compared to the estimated sales of Rs. 13 billion in 2013-2014.
