Introduction
The Bank of Maharashtra is one of the major public sector Banks of India. This Bank which operates with Pune as its head office was established with an authorized capital of Rs.10 lakhs in the year of 1935. The Bank was established by a group of people led by V.G Kale and D.K Sathe and became a Banking company by registering it on 16th of September in the same year at Pune with an authorized capital of Rs.1 million. It began its operations from 8th of February 1936. It was then added under the 'Scheduled Banks' list in 1944, and in 1969 it was nationalized along with the other 13 Banks.However the Bank had obtained a status of autonomy in the year 1998 and from then there is only limited government interference in its internal affairs and its decisions are made internally.After nationalization the Bank had expanded rapidly, the Bank's financial assistance to many small units hsd helped them grow into larger ones. In the year 2009 it was in its 75th year and had adopted 75 underdeveloped villages on purpose of developing them. It holds the honorable position of being the convener of the state level Bankers committee and offers depository services and Demat facilities in over 131 branches across the country and all its branches are computerized.

The Bank has tie ups with the Life insurance corporation of India and the United India insurance companies for the sale of various insurance policies. It has achieved 100% CBS by offering Banking services to its customers across, anywhere anytime making it one of the most customer service oriented Banks.The Bank has more than 15 million people served throughout the country and more than 1800+ branches all over the country making it the Bank having the largest network of branches compared to any other public sector Banks operating in the state of Maharashtra.
It has been listed in both the National stock exchange and the Bombay stock exchanges of India.
