UN International World Day of Social Justice

World Day of Social Justice is celebrated on 20 February every year. It was formed in November 2007 for the period of the 62 annual session of General Assembly. UN World Day of Social Justice is intended to attain the goal of employment and eradication of poverty. The motto or theme of International Day of Social Justice is 'a society for all'. This day is specially observed by UN and ILO (International Labor Office) by making diverse statements and by holding seminars and conferences. Diverse NGO's, Trade Unions and additional social groups celebrate this day on every 20 February by arranging World Day of Justice actions. This United Nations Day is monitored to make efforts for the eradication of poverty.

The United Nations (UN) World Day of Social Justice is yearly watched on February 20 to cheer people to look at how social justice affects poverty eradication. It also focuses on the aim of achieving full employment and prop up for social integration.

What do people do?

Many organizations, together with the UN and the International Labor Office, make statements on the magnitude of social justice for people. Many organizations also present plans for greater social justice by tackling poverty, social and economic exclusion and unemployment. Trade unions and campaign groups are provoked to call on their members and supporters to mark the day. The Russian General Confederation of Trade Unions affirmed that the common slogan would be "Social Justice and Decent Life for All!"

Schools, colleges and universities may organize unique activities for the day or plan a week of events just about a theme related to poverty, social and economic exclusion or unemployment. Diverse media, including radio and television stations, newspapers and Internet sites, may give awareness to the issues around the World Day of Social Justice.

It is anticipated that fussy coverage is given to the links among the illicit trade in diamonds and armed conflicts, particularly in Africa, and the importance of the International Criminal Court. This is a free court that conducts trials of people indicted of genocide, crimes in opposition to humanity and war crimes.

It has been found out that between 1984 and 2008, while rates of crime either stayed steady or fell, the world’s rate of imprisonment almost doubled. The majority of prisoners come from the most disadvantaged sections of the community: the underprivileged, those suffering from mental illness, and especially indigenous people. The uneven growth in incarceration has come about in part because of frequent law-and-order election campaigns and sensationalist reporting, which support the idea that crime is out of control.
