Philosophy Day

Philosophy Day is observed on 21st November each year. UNESCO is the intellectual and ethical arm of the United Nations. Thus philosophy fosters an authentic foundation for peaceful co-existence.

The term philosophy signifies the love of wisdom. In arabic, it is 'Falsafa', meaning sience and discipline of wisdom. Philosophy is a way and act of thinking around fundamental concepts and ideas of life-both individual and collective. Thus celebration of Philosophy Day is to support and promote ideas of well being among individuals. It is celebrated in about fifty countries through conferences, debates and related activities.

For the first time, Philosophy Day at Paris headquarters, UNESCO, discussed topics such as poverty and justice. These two are such a vitwl condition in individual's life that nobody can live a meaningful life in poverty and without social 'justice'. Hence philosophy does not limit to thinking of an idea but diverges to ethics, science and knowledge.

Philosophy leads to cultural revolution and betterment of society. It is precisely an act of reflection, analysis, of questioning of concepts that are taken for granted, ideas dulled by time. Hence philosophy should be supported, promoted through different activities to enrich the lives of masses.
