National Youth Day


The National Youth Day is the day for the youths which is celebrated on January 12th on the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. It was decided by the Government of India in 1984 for they wanted the youth of India to follow the ideal principles of Swami Vivekananda and to think positively and move ahead strategically for the country's development so that the upcoming generations do not loose their roots. A reference statement from the government of India was that "It was felt that the philosophy of Swamiji and the ideals for which he lived and worked could be a great source of inspiration for the Indian Youth. Thus the National Youth Day is observed from 1985 on the 12th of January every year.

History of National Youth Day

Swami Vivekananda was born on January 12th in the year 1863 in an affluent family in Kolkata.He was known as Narendra Nath Datta in his pre-monastic life. He was a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and a colossal philosopher more as a motivation to the youth, the incarnation of Indian ethnicity and astuteness. Swami Vivekananda is known for his spiritual talkings related to the culture. He was very much interested in planning youth associations and assignments revolving youths. So this day is an ideal opportunity to remember this legend and his principles with an enormous source of appreciation for the youths not only in India but also around the world.  

Celebration and Activities

The National Youth Day is celebrated at schools and colleges where various activities like parades, speeches, narrations, songs, youth conferences, colloquium, Yogasanas, awards, contest in essay-writing, music, speeches, recitations, processions, sports, seminars presentations and games are conducted. Swami Vivekananda's writings and lectures, deriving their stimulation from Indian spiritual custom and broad viewpoint of his Master Sri Ramakrishna, are the basis of stimulation and have provoked several youth associations, study circles, and observe projects occupying youth.

On the occasion, different activities take place in India which promote youth in the field of education, art, culture and hope to generate moral values with enlightenment of inner soul. On the occasion Mission Bhartiyam organize two day grand event in Uttar Pradesh of India for youths where more than dozen activities takes place for all age groups. The event named as BASTI YUVA MAHOTSAV. In fact other government and non government organisations, corporate groups also celebrate in their way.
