Mother Languages Day

Mother Language Day is celebrated on 21st February. This Day was proclaimed by UNESCO's General Conference as Mother Language Day. It was celebrated at organisation's Headquarters with a ceremony in 1999. UNESCO's member states wishes to recall that languages are not only an essential part of humanity's cultural heritage, but the irreducible expression of human creativity and of its great diversity.

Hence mother language or tongue is an essential tool to express one's own expression or desire to its fullest length. Mother's language does not require an additional effort or force to express anything with clarity. On the occasion of the ceremony, United Nations Secretary General.

Kofi Annan expressed support for International Mother Language Day, He said it raises awareness among all people regarding the value of languages. He further reaffirmed the importance of presenting language diversity.

Language is a means of communication and expression of one's own desire and thinking. According to Rabindra Nath Tagore, "Mother tongue is like mother's milk." Mother tongue nourishes mind and soul which becomes expressive from time to time. A situation or condition becomes lively, if spoken or written in mother tongue. The words and emotions become free flowing with ease.
