Earth Day is similar to World Environment Day. Earth day is celebrated on April 22 whereas World Environment Day is observed on June 5 every year. Earth Day was designed to inspire an awareness about the Earth and its environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, an Environmental Technical guy way back in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year. The first Earth Day was in 1970. Earth Day is in spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.

Earth Day fights for a cleaner environment. It helps to channel energy into building a clean, healthy and diverse world for the future generations. Earth Day is a very special day specifically designed for all of us to think about earth issues . It is a special day that the whole world participates in.

 There are celebrations, events or campaigns that concern us with earth matters.Events around the world include environmental rallies, performance by cultural artists. More than one billion people take part in the Earth Day celebrations every year to fight climate change and build a green earth for all people and for our children. The Earth day organization has a global reach of more than 20,000 partners and organizations in more than 190 countries.

Earth Day reinforces the importance of environmental education, which has become the most successful and enduring part of this day. As a citizen of this earth what can we do on our part?

• Use public transport whenever possible
• Separate garbage at source
• Avoid plastic bags
• Increase your awareness about environment
• Avoid using chemical pesticides
• Reduce, reuse, recycle
• Reduce your paper consumption
• Save water
