The 224 islands that form this Union Territory in the Bay of Bengal have an area of around 8200 sq. km. There is also more number of uninhabited islands.
The headquarters of this Union Territory is well connected with Madras and Calcutta by air as well as by sea. Boats are available for inter-island trips. The islands are lushly forested and golden-beached. Many of the islands are just opening up to tourists.
