Introduction
Yoga is a primeval art form which has been practiced in India for centuries as a way of freeing the mind, body & spirit from the clutter of life . In recent years, yoga has also become extremely popular in India and in the west. There are many yoga centers in India, providing everything from in- depth courses to flexible classes.Yoga is used to block the pattern of consciousness in human beings. Yoga means union. It is a system which integrates the body, mind and soul. This art form was developed and practiced in India for thousands for years. Yoga is not a religion but is a science.
The four paths of yoga are Karma Yoga- the path of selfless service, bhakthi yoga- the path of devotion, Jnana Yoga- the path of knowledge and Raja Yoga- the path of controlling the mind.
Yoga can be practiced by anyone regardless of age, sex and physical ability. In the modern world yoga and its different poses have been found to be a cure for many major diseases and ailments.
Yoga is not just another form of exercise. It is a combination of postures, breathing techniques, and meditation. Yoga contain five main components essential to achieving a perfect balance. Postures or asanas provide the foundation combined with various breathing techniques called pranayamas, mantras or sounds and concentration or dharana techniques prepare the person for a final state of relaxation and contemplation in meditation or dhyana.

The key to any Yoga practice is the performance of yoga positions or yoga poses also called as asanas. Each of these yoga poses have specific physical and mental benefits. Asana is defined as "posture� and its literal meaning is "seat." Originally, the asanas served as stable postures for prolonged meditation. Asanas or the yoga poses purify and strengthen the body and control and focus the mind. Asana is one of the eight limbs of classical Yoga.
