GEOLOGIST
Introduction to the Career
Geology is mainly that branch of science which deals with the study of the earth, about its environment, history, minerals, etc. Today in the present kind of environment, career in Geology is gaining lot of popularity. Different branches of Geology which are more important are structural geology, mineralogy, planetology, geomorphology, geological engineering, etc. A person who mainly studies the composition of the earth is known as the geologist. The geologists play the most significant role in discovering and exploring the mineral wealth and natural resources of the earth. Most geologists work or mainly supervise exploration works at a variety of sites like deserts, land forms, ocean floors, riverbeds, mountains, etc. Researching as well as scientific study is generally carried out by most organizations which are involved in geological work. Geological work involves research of the location for physical data and material by drilling of deep holes to obtain samples for mainly studying materials found on or near the earth's surface and beneath the sea. They analyse information collected through the major seismic prospecting which involves bouncing the sound waves off deeply buried rock layersm and then later examining the surface rocks and samples of buried rocks, study information collected by most of the important satellites.
They identify rocks, minerals, and fossils, duely conduct geological surveys, construct maps and use instruments such as gravimeter and magnetometer which are used to measure the earth's gravity and magnetic field. A very important application of geological research which is used in the process is the location of oil, natural gas and minerals.
Geologist - Job Description

The people studying geology are ebligible to work as Geologists, Meteorologists, Geographers or Oceanographers. The candidate having degree in geology can pursue a career in Petrology, Paleontology, Geophysics, Mining, Environmental Education, Research and Field Study.
As the geologists hold significant role in exploring precious valuable mineral resources, they can get good employment opportunities in public and private mining sectors. Opportunities in Geology ranges from studying and predicting man-made and natural disasters to exploring mineral resources.
Geology Courses:
