Vijay Deverakonda talks about punishment he gave himself after 'Liger' failure

Vijay Deverakonda, who will be seen next in 'The Family Star', recalled the punishment he gave himself after 'Liger' failed at the box office. At a press conference in Hyderabad on April 1, he said that he is the same before and after the failure of 'Liger'. However, after the film flopped at the box office, he decided to stop himself from talking about its success even before it could hit theatres. 'Liger', directed by Puri Jagannadh, is a sports drama which ended up as a damp squib.

On April 1, Vijay Deverakonda, along with Mrunal Thakur and producer Dil Raju, held a press conference to promote 'The Family Star'. During the event, Vijay was asked about the failure of 'Liger' and how he had changed after the film's result at the box office. Replying to the question, he said that he hadn't changed much but had learnt a few lessons.

He said, "There is no change in my attitude. I have remained the same before and after the release. The only difference is that I decided not to talk about the results of my films [before release] for the next three movies or so. That's the punishment I gave myself."

'Liger' marked Vijay Deverakonda's first collaboration with director Puri Jagannadh. The film, which was marketed as Vijay's first pan-Indian film and Bollywood debut, received negative reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Before the release, Deverakonda was confident about the film's success and said, "I will start counting box office numbers after Rs 200 crore." His speech became viral, and the film ended up as a fodder for memes.

Now that Vijay is over the flop of 'Liger', he is eagerly waiting for the release of 'The Family Star'. This family drama marks his second collaboration with director Parasuram Petla after their successful outing with 'Geetha Govindam'. The film, which also features Mrunal Thakur, will release in theatres on April 5 in multiple languages.
