The holy Dargah Sharief in Ajmer is the second most important pilgrimage after Mecca and Medina for the Muslims all over the world. The magnificent gateway that leads to the Dargah was constructed by the Nizam of Hyderabad. The entry to the Dargah is through the Dargah Bazaar that leads to the inner courtyard. The high gateway has beautifully carved silver doors. In the courtyard are kept two huge cauldrons with capacity of 2240 kg and 4480 kg. On special occasions, 'Kheer' cooked in these cauldrons is distributed among the pilgrims. The grave of the Sufi Saint is surrounded by a silver railing and is partially covered with a marble screen. The daughter of Shah Jahan had built a prayer room in the Dargah for the women devotees. The premises of the Dargah also has the tomb of Bhishti, tomb of Saint's daughter-Bibi Hafiz Jama and the tomb of Shah Jahan's daughter Chimni Begum.
Significance of the Temple
Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti occupies a prominent place among the spiritual Healers of the world. Hazrat Khawaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti popularly know as -Sultan-Ul-Hind-, Khawaja Gharib Nawaz, Khwaja Gharib Nawaz Ajmeri, Khwaja Baba, Khwaja Saheb, Khwaja Sahib, Khwaja Ajmeri was born in 1142 A.D. in Sanjar (Iran). His paternal genealogy is related to Hazrat lmam Hussain and that of his maternal to Hazrat Imam Hassan. And thus he is a direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad.
He was a symbol of love, harmony and truth. The sources of this power may be traced to his own exceptional endowments. Throughout his life, he exhibited the noble traits of character so peculiar to the house of Prophet Muhammed to which he belonged. Truth, right conduct, peace, love and non-violence were his mission and true message to all the Sufis.
Khwaja Baba was a scholar of great repute. He interpreted the true Islamic message of love for mankind and through that, the love for the Almighty creator. He preached the Quranic philosophy of the unity of religion and worked out its potentialities for the whole humanity.
Sufi Saint Khawaja Muinuddin Chisti was the greatest mystic of his time. He laid the foundation of the liberal Chishti order of Sufis in India, and inspired millions of souls to be his followers and thus served the masses of the Indian Sub-continent.
