Some legends say that they are descended from Suryavanshi & some from Chandravanshi. They are presently Lingayats & other castes.
After the Suryavanshi Kingdom declined, the surviving people from this dynasty migrated to various places. Vijayasurtha (Prasanajit) & his family migrated to Saurashtra (present day in Gujarat). He became a rich trader. He earned a big house & many workers, body guards & horses. He would sail to various cities and sell his products. One day he sailed far away and due to the heavy waves he reached an unknown island.
The island was big, covered with forest & barren land. He had an idea and with the help of his workers he built a fortress around the island and divided it into 2 different cities. He built many houses & roads. He converted the island into beautiful islands. He settled in that island with his family and named it as Gajapuri (because of large number of elephants). He was chosen as the king of Gajapuri and people started to live in that island.
Surathi and some of the soldiers went to the sea to make peace, but on the way Surathi was killed by his own Minister. Everyone in the army supported Marasjit. So Surathi's wife with her small child and her relations sailed back to India. They settled in Vadhachira. Many centuries passed and medieval period started. Many foreign invaders started to attack India. The invaders made many kingdoms. There were foreign people, so they tortured the people and imposed Jaziya tax on them. Suryavanshi people were now aware of the conditions passing. So they left Bhaironpur (Ancient Vadhachira) and entered the Vijayanagar Empire of the south. They became merchants and army officers in the Vijayanagar Empire. They came to be known as Ravivanshi (Ravi means Sun in Kannada language). They adopted the culture of Karnataka.
